The brain is one of the most intricate and amazing parts of the human body. Even though it doesn’t take a lot of space, it’s incredible how it allowed us to reach so many technological advancements.
The brain is probably one of the parts of the human body that still has a lot to show us. However, there are already some facts that you probably don’t know about your brain. Just check them out.
1. The brain waves tend to be more active when you are dreaming
While most people assume that their brains shut off when they fall asleep, the truth is that your brain doesn’t really have an on and off button. In addition, your brain works even more when you are sleeping than when you are awake no matter if you’re thinking, eating, talking, or even walking.
The brain waves tend to be especially active in the initial stages of the sleep.
2. The brain is mostly water, just like the rest of the human body
While it’s not anything new that the human body is mostly water, the news may be that your brain is too.
While you may have some questions about this fact, just think about when you feel light-headed or dizzy when you are dehydrated. This is your body telling you that your brain needs water to perform well.
3. The brain consumes more energy than any other specific part of the human body
While your brain represents only 3% of your body, it requires up to 20% of energy to work. This energy is used in multiple ways. While it mostly serves to produce and maintain the cell-growth, the energy your brain requires is also used to fuel all those electrical impulses in your body.
4. The brain doesn’t only require energy as it also produces energy
Your brain doesn’t stop for a second. It is always working and this is why it needs so much energy. However, the human brain is also able to produce energy. In fact, it produces so many energy that it can illuminate a light bulb. And the process is pretty simple. As you know, in order to act and think, we need the electrical impulses that are produced by the brain. If we were able to harness these electrical impulses, we would illuminate a 25 watts light bulb when we are awake.
5. Neurons multiply a lot quicker during pregnancy
The truth is that scientists still can’t explain this but the fact is that the neurons of a pregnant woman can multiply by more than 200,000 neurons each minute. This means that the ability to remember and learn is far better and easier for pregnant women.
